Impunity Human Rights Act Marginalised and vulnerable groups Accountability and Access to JusticeOn 28 March, the UK Parliament’s Joint Committee on Human Rights (JCHR) published its report on the creation of a human rights ombudsperson in the UK, quoting and supporting RSI’s input extensively.
In our submission, we gave several recommendations that would be essential for enabling a UK human rights ombudsperson office, if established, to effectively fulfil its role. The JCHR quoted several of the principles we had identified through our research, such as the need for any ombudsperson to have the power to initiate its own investigations. Similarly, the JCHR agreed that the public should be made aware of ombudsperson services, including via close collaboration with civil society organisations.
