Throughout the years this organisation has undergone a number of transformations. We were introduced to the world as ‘British-Irish Rights Watch’ – a collection of human rights defenders working to ensure that human rights harms suffered during the conflict in Northern Ireland did not remain unaccounted for. As we grew, the landscape of national security grew with us. With the onset of the ‘War on Terror’ we matured into ‘RightsWatchUK’ – moving our focus from Northern Ireland to the UK more broadly and the UK Government’s conduct globally. Since then, and in partnership with CSOs and activists globally, our work has become increasingly international.
To reflect the growth of our international partnerships and work, it is with great pleasure that I can now introduce to you our latest transformation – Rights and Security International. The same organisation, but with a more global mandate. Our mission is one of just and effective security, delivered through the same human rights approach that has driven us forward since birth.
With our new identity comes a new website – www.rightsandsecurity.org. Please explore at your own pleasure. For those on social media, you can continue to stay up to date with our work @rightssecurity.
