On 28 January, the Home Office updated its Channel privacy notice following the release of RSI’s report, Caught in the Web: Prevent databases and the policing of children.
Specifically, the Home Office has added information about the circumstances in which it and the police will share personal data with third parties, including other law enforcement agencies. It also describes some of the sources of data that the Home Office and the police consider as part of the Prevent process.
In Caught in the Web, RSI, among other things, criticises the lack of transparency in how the Home Office, the police and other government bodies collect, store and share data as part of the Prevent process.
While many of the concerns we raised in our report remain, the Home Office have taken a step towards greater transparency in how personal data is used as part of the Prevent process.
