Speaking in the House of Commons on 12 December 2012 the Prime Minister told the family of Pat Finucane that he was ‘deeply sorry’ for the ‘totally unacceptable’ levels of collusion revealed in the de Silva report into the murder of Pat Finucane. He went on to say that he had asked the Secretary of State for Defence, the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland and the Cabinet Secretary to report back to him on all the issues arising for the report, and promised to publish these reports.
Rights Watch (UK) has twice written to the Prime Minister to ask when these reports will be published. Aside from acknowledging receipt of our letter we have received no response.
Susan Bryant, Director of Rights Watch UK said:
“One year later the government appears to have done nothing in response to the de Silva review. The family is no closer to the answers they deserve and the people ultimately responsible are no closer to being held to account. We urge the government to acknowledge the failure of the review and to order a public inquiry immediately.”
